We all need a good pair of snips — ones that can live in pockets without doing any harm and wander 'round the garden with us for those unplanned pruning moments.

These snips are not as tough as secateurs — we recommend using them for green growth only, not woody pruning — but the slender blades are perfect for getting right in for careful snipping.

Materials: SK85 steel with rubberized grip handles

Made by: Niwaki

Made in: Sanjo, Japan

Specifications: 7" x 2"

Care: After using, remove leaf residue, rust and gunk with a and water. Dry with a clean cloth and wipe with . Store in a dry place.

You can keep your snips working properly by remembering the following:

  • Japanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused
  • Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material (even bamboo fibres and some very hard woods, especially knots and burrs, can damage steel edges)
  • Do not twist or apply uneven pressure
  • Cut diagonally across branches (not straight across) so you cut along the fibres
  • Pay attention to our maximum cut dimensions (in this case Ø3mm), and don’t overdo it
  • Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts
  • Wipe clean with a clean rag after each use
  • Sharpen regularly
